How to remove Stain

July 4, 2008 by artira

To remove different stains such as coffee, juice, greasy substance, etc …. First you have to absorb the stain with a non- dyed cloth or a tissue paper. Sponging should also be done to wipe off the coloring substance, but there are different techniques for removing different kinds of stains, each having its own process. Washing the most important factor to preserve carpets for a long time is to keep them clean, take good care, wash them every 2 or 3 years, and restore them when damaged.

For Any type of stain remember ” Do Not rube it”

Persina knot vs. Turkish knot

July 4, 2008 by artira

Persian knot.:Also called Senneh knot or asymmetrical rug knot. While sometimes called a Senneh knot, it should be noted that Senneh rugs use the symmetrical or Turkish knot. The knotting pictured shows the rug knots opening to the left. This is the most common style of Senneh knotting. Few Oriental rugs have the asymmetrical knot opening to the right. In the Persian Knot, the wool thread forms a single turn about the warp thread. One end comes out over this thread and the other over the next warp thread. This Senneh knot is found in many Persian workshop Oriental rugs such as those from Kashan, Qum, Kerman, Nain.(Central part)

Turkish knot. Also called Giordes knot or symmetrical rug knot.In the Turkish knot the yarn is taken twice around two adjacent warp threads and the ends are drawn out between these two threads. Found in Tabriz Oriental rugs from Iran as well as in many village rugs such as Hamadans and Heriz rugs.

Wool:

Sheep wool is one of the basic elements in the carpet industry. It is usually used to weave the pile of a carpet. Altough in some part of Iran camel’s hair is used to.

Iranian sheep have thick wool, which is  suitable material for carpets as the warp is thick,  and strong. The quality of wool based on thw wether condition. If it is mild and mountainous Wool is much better than that from humid condition. Moreover, the quality of wool in the spring is always better than  in the autumn.

Sheep’s wool contains many external substances ;inorder to have a soft carpet, these substances should be seprated from wool.In other words,if we process dying with unwashed wool we will not have a good shade of color on our material. The best way to clean wool is washing wiith water but with equipments. After washing process, wool is ready for dying.

Every things in triabal carpet are made by hand even colors they use are antural colors.

Cotton and silk are other elements that weavers based on the design will be apply them.

Tragedy

June 26, 2008 by artira

Two month ago while workers worked on the road in Khark Island in Iran, they found an inscription

in cuneiform.

Archaeologists said tat the inscription might be back to Achaemenian dynasty.

But it was special because it was a proof of Persian gulf.Although I don ‘t know why we have to show

a proof that world do not make mistake and change the name of the gulf more than 5000 years to

A-R-A-B-I-C Gulf that every single express in western made it this mistake such as National Geographic and google map.

The tragedy happened last week when some stranger came to the island(Kharkbecause of its petroleum position ,has security in coming and arriving) and destroyed the inscription.

You can see how harsh it is,they used hammer and nail(sharp objects) to destroy it,and archaeologist said it is so hard to fix it.They added, the nature of the damage indicates that it has been done deliberately .

As you can see %70 of the inscription was damaged seriously.

It is so sad when you see some governments are careless.

Rsoul Bashash ,ancient linguist, deciphered the inscription and he explained that

It was written on coral stone but not in a hurry shapes.

The script said:

The not irrigated land was (became) happy
(with) my bringing out (water) Bahana wells.”

Color & Design

June 12, 2008 by artira

Colors effect our atmosphere to be calm,or warm,to be anxious or cold.

Color in carpet has the same reflection;therefore,a designer should have good understanding to use colors and patterns.

The name of oriental pattern usually are derived from the city or tribe where

The carpet were woven there, for example Tabriz ,Isfahan,….

But based on their design we can classified them to five groups:Geometric, Floral, Pictorial and Decorative.

Geometric:

Primitive design, mostly the design uses in small villages or nomadic tribes

The design back to ancient time that people only Knows shape like star, polygone

Crosses.there is no movement in the design.Material is limited to wool and its color limited to bold colors.

Floral:

The deign usually uses in cities. The history of applying this design back to

Baharestan carpet, then after Islam, new curves came to Persian art, Arabesques (flower-swirls. Shah Abbas,

who admired art and carpet industry, asked artists

To come and make one of the best using of floral design on Ardabil carpet

This is now keeping in London Museum.

This design that is mostly has flowers and trees and leaves. Depend on the location of weavers different kinds of flower are used like lily in the east part.

Despite geometric, there is no limitation on material. Weavers generally use cotton for the warp and wool for the weft. Silk may occasionally be used for one or both.Colors for floral design is usually nature colors.

 Pictorail:

This design is applied for those carpet that coukld be framed or for “Sajaddeh”,Muslim prayer rug.

Pattern for Pictorail is hunting sence, garden, miniture, architectural niches.

Material for this fine knotted carpet is silk for the weft and the wrap.

Decorative:

Decorative design hase a modern look .the design is between modern design and taraditional design.

Vegtable dyes make it unique and most of young people like this type of design.

Baharestan(spring of Khosrow)

May 29, 2008 by artira

Art is language of history, evidence that tell never lie.

Baharestan carpet is the sheet of Persian history.

Bahrestan was made at Sassanid dynasty, when Khosrow was the king.

He always loved his garden, so he ordered to artists to bring his garden to his palace.

Artists made Baharestan which it means spring  Farsi. Artists paint the garden in four seasons by carpet.

The design of it was unique. Probably since then flower came to carpet design.

But the cruel of history, destroyed the carpet. When Arab overcame Persia, they destryed everything, they cut the carpet into small fragments and divided among the victorious soldiers as booty. How sad it is.

I tried to find any pictures of the carpet, even imaginary one, but I couldn’t find anything unless its description:

According to Tabari’s history, it’s said that; its design was like a garden in spring which was decorated with trees full of leaves and colorful flowers also with designs of streams and water basins, in the middle and ducks sitting on sides of streams. Carpet’s background was woven with golden and silver threads and yarns .leaves and their flowers were from light silk. This carpet which is dais to be studded with gems and jewels seems to be coarse-carpet type, because if it was woven with nodes, with the sizes which were narrated (30m * 30m) must have had around 2.5 tones of weight.

Baharestan shows that why we don’t have any books from ancient history, after Arab’s attack.

In Chinese calendar (Sui-su), we can see another evidence of Persian carpet around 590 BC-67 AD. It said about war between Hera Kluvy(Chinese king) and Khosrow Parviz(Persian king), that some of “soft carpets” were stolen from Persia.

History

May 22, 2008 by artira

Have you ever seen the first carpet before?

No?

Can you guess how old is it?

500?1000 years? wronnnnnnng!

Pazyryk was the first carpet that was discovered,in 1949, in Pazyryk Valley in Siberia.Refer to Persia history by Gresham, the carpet was discovered in the grave of Scythian prince. The carpet was a gift from Achaemenian dynasty (546 B.C.) ’s king to Scythian Prince. But the carpet was woven 5th BC ,and it was frozen through the history. This carpet is 1.83×2 meters and has 36 symmetrical knots per cm².As you can see in the picture ,the carpet is divided by borders.

In the first border, there are 7 horsemen some of them mounted others walking beside horses

but if you notice every sides have 7 horsemen, and the carpet has 4 sides,so the total we have 28 horsemen .the number is exact number that we can can find in Persepolis, that shows 28 men caring Xerxes’s(the third king) throne to  Persepolis. In the inner principal band there is a line of six elks on each side. The two external guards are decorated, with a succession of small squares containing imaginary creatures, probably griffins.Dyes used for the carpet, are natural but their originalityare not known because most of them were faded away.
